Cowboy Killers

Verdigris and tobacco ink on paper

Performed by my handmade verdigris and tobacco inks, "Cowboy Killers" considers what some of the original Marlboro Men might have looked like in their final years, most of whom died of lung cancer.
Verdigris, the same material that coats the Statue of Liberty, represents freedom and the decay freedom can bring, Americana, and toxicity. Tobacco holds similar symbology while also reminding us of addiction and desire, propaganda, and advertising.
